The public toilets in Buxton have been branded so dirty by one user he has vowed to never use them again.
Dave Adams - who is recovering from back surgery - says the surfaces in the toilets next to the town hall were so dirty last week when he used them, he feared he would get an infection.
And he claims the condition of the ‘disgusting’ toilets in Buxton are ‘dragging the town down’.
Dave, 47, of Dove Holes, said: “The council should be ashamed of how disgusting the toilets are.
“You wouldn’t let visitors to your home use your toilet if it was that dirty but we are meant to be a tourist town and the facilities available for people visiting the area are a joke.”
There are four public toilet blocks in the town - including facilities at Sylvan car park where the public has to pay 20p.
Dave said: “The issue of not being enough toilets is a long one but would we want more toilets if they were as disgusting as all the others?
“I think people would be happy to pay to use the toilet if they knew the place they were going was clean.
“Millions of pounds is being spent on The Crescent to turn Buxton into a spa town but the horrible toilets drag the town down.”
A spokesman for High Peak Borough Council said the team responsible for cleaning the town’s toilets works to an agreed schedule, which includes visiting toilets several times during the day - and to a ‘thorough specification’.
The spokesman added: “Visits are made to the toilets at different times to ensure standards are maintained but as these facilities are open to the public the cleanliness at any point in time is related to recent usage.”
