Derelict Chapel-en-le-Frith pub to become houses

The Jolly Carter in Chapel-en-le-Frith, which has stood empty since 2009, will now become three two-bedroom houses within the pub building and three two-bedroom new-build properties.

The project was given the go-ahead on Monday after an application was submitted by High Peak Architects Ltd last year.

Permission had already been granted by the council for a change of use into a residential area with two houses on site back in 2013.

The pub is made up of two buildings to the front and the rear, however High Peak Architects said: “All of the properties have a principle entrance from the pavement edge of Buxton Road, following the pattern of the adjacent terrace.”

There will be nine off-road car parking spaces and landscaped gardens when the project is finished and the council has said work must start within three years.

Concerns were raised about the plan by the parish council which felt the ‘proposed materials did not match the existing building’.

Due to the location of the new houses on the A6 bypass,some residents felt that the speed limit should be lowered from 60mph to 40mph.

The Highways Agency had raised issues of the drainage run with the plans stating it must ‘not affected by any part of the proposals either during or afterwards’.
