Derbyshire tweeters more negative about climate than Notts neighbours

It's a well-known fact that us Brits love talking about the weather - but it seems that Derbyshire residents are more negative about our climate than our neighbours in Nottinghamshire.

British Gas has compiled a new interactive map called Sunny With a Side of Twitter, which uses geo-located Twitter data over 12 months in order to look at every UK county and see if where we live impacts our outlook on the weather as well as if we’re more inclined to look on the bright side come rain or shine or if we are just simply ‘weather-whingers’.

To create the map, British Gas took a quarter of a million tweets from people in the UK relating to weather. They pinpointed the precise location attached to the tweet and used a tool to determine whether the sentiment behind each tweet was negative or a positive.

And the results showed that 43 per cent of posts by Derbyshire tweeters are of a negative persuasion - eight per cent more than the national average.

But it’s snow that really gets to us here in Derbyshire - 31 per cent of weather-focused tweets are about the white stuff, 20 per cent more than the national average. No surprise really given that, according to the Met Office, our county gets between ten and 30 days of snow a year!
