Derbyshire set to boil in mini-heatwave

Derbyshire is set to roast in a mini-heatwave.

Temperatures are expected to hit nearly 30C in the county on Friday, according to the Met Office.

Public Health England has issued a heatwave alert urging residents to be prepared for the sweltering conditions.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for the very young or very old or those with chronic disease.

“Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from nhs.uk/summerhealth.”

The rising humidity is likely to trigger stormy weather, however, with the Met Office issuing a ‘be prepared’ alert of rain for the weekend.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Areas of heavy, thundery showers may develop from Friday night and into Saturday.

“The development of these is uncertain but where they do form some torrential downpours are possible with frequent lightning, large hail and and strong gusts.

“The public should be aware of the risk of disruption from any of these elements.”
