Derbyshire car fire spreads into house

Crews were called to a fire in Chesterfield after a car went up in flames and spread to a nearby property this morning (December 23).

Firefighters from Chesterfield and Dronfield attended Stand Road just after 11.20am, after reports of the blaze.

They arrived to find one estate car on fire - which had spread to the first floor of a semi-detached property.

Geraldine Purdy, who lives on Wordsworth Road which backs on to the property affected, said: “I couldn’t see very much but we could definitely hear it.

“It sounded like fireworks going off which I presume was the car and house windows smashing.”

Two hose reel jets, a covering jet and two breathing apparatus were used to put out the fire and firefighters had left the scene by 11.35am.
