Sergeant Denis Murphy, PC Andrew Crosthwaite and PCSO Karen Green from the Chapel and Chinley Safer Neighbourhood Team listened to the views of local residents at a meeting earlier this week (Monday, January 25).

Officers then used the feedback to help set new policing priorities to focus on over the next three months.

One of the issues raised concerned drivers contravening road signs and markings near to Chapel-en-le-Frith bypass. This involved motorists causing serious safety issues for other road users by driving the wrong way up the A6 slip road.

Officers will be working to target this problem by stepping up vehicle patrols around the bypass area. Anyone found to be flouting safety and warning signs will be spoken to and dealt with appropriately.

Following the priority meeting, the policing team will also be working to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Chapel after residents raised the issue of groups acting anti-socially in the area, particularly around Memorial Park.

In order to improve the situation, PC Andy Crosthwaite and PCSO Karen Green will be carrying out high-visibility patrols to identify groups taking part in ASB and engaging with them about the effects of their behaviour on local people.

They will be working alongside local councillors and partner agencies to consider other solutions and help deter youngsters from taking part.
