A Chapel-en-le-Frith teenager has lost his driving licence for not having sufficient tread on his tyres, court heard.

Ashley Jordan Hallam, 18, of Manchester Road, admitted two charges relating to the condition of the tyres on his blue Ford Escort, on May 4 at Morrisons car park, in Chapel.

He was sentenced at High Peak Magistrates’ Court on Monday, when his licence was revoked.

John Cooper, prosecuting, said that police approached Hallam at the supermarket car park at 12.45am and that he admitted he knew that they were bald and that the tread depth was below the legal requirements.

Chairman of the Bench Pam Ashton sentenced Hallam to three points on his licence, fined him £120 and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £35 court costs.

The court heard he already had three points on his licence from using a mobile phone while driving last August and that as he was a new driver, his licence would automatically be revoked.

Mrs Ashon added: “It’s not a disqualification but it’s a hard lesson to learn.”
