Police warning after increase in theft of dogs across Derbyshire

Police have sent out a warning to dog owners following a spike in dog thefts across Derbyshire.

The Derbyshire Rural Crime team have urged to dog owners to be vigilant and make sure their pets microchipped after a number of both adult dogs and puppies were targeted in the county.

Officers said that most of the dogs that have been stolen recently seem to be working breeds, such as Collies and Spaniels.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Please make sure your dogs are secure and have all be microchipped ASAP.

"Keep kennels secure at all times. Also keep an eye on your dogs when out walking them off the leads.”

Anyone with information about dogs being stolen in the county is urged to call Debryshire Police on 101 and ask to speak to a member of the team.
