Derbyshire police said the response comes after reports which suggested there was a possibility that young people from another area could attend the event at High Lea Park on Saturday to cause trouble.

Officers are also investigating reports of an incident involving 30 young people from outside Derbyshire visiting New Mills on Halloween and threatening local youngsters.

PCSO Lee Baker, of the High Peak Youth Engagement Team, said: “Following these reports we are working with neighbouring schools and police forces to identify any individuals who may be planning to come to New Mills to cause a nuisance at the bonfire.

“There will be police patrols in New Mills to target any issues and reassure residents and local parents. I would encourage people to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour or disorder to us.

“Officers will always take appropriate enforcement action whenever any individuals are found to be involved in anti-social or nuisance behaviour, or when a crime is committed.”

PCSO Baker added: “As always, we advise parents and carers to make sure they know where their youngsters are going and what their plans are to help keep them safe while they are out and about.”

Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour, or has information about those responsible, is asked to call Derbyshire police on 101.
