Officers in Hathersage are appealing for information after mountain bikes were stolen from a property in the village.

Sometime between 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 27 and 12noon on Saturday, October 31, offenders forced open a shed door at a property on Oddfellows Terrace, Hathersage.

Three mountain bikes, including a grey Rocky Mountain ETX50, a black coloured Cotic Soul, and a black Genesis Grapil, were stolen.

Following the incident, residents are being encouraged to consider the security of their own sheds, garages, and outbuildings to help to protect their property from being targeted by thieves.

They advise residents to fit all outbuildings with a quality lock and say they should also consider purchasing a shed alarm and quality chains to further secure their bikes.

They also say people should ensure that valuables are kept out of the view of passers-by and look to mark valuable items with a security fluid such as ‘SmartWater’ which can help deter criminals and help police return property if it is stolen and then recovered.

Anyone with information about the incident, or who knows the whereabouts of the bikes, is asked to contact PC Mark White on 101, quoting crime number 47009/15, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

For further crime prevention advice, or to speak to the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team, call 101 or follow them on Twitter @HathersageSNT.
