THE driver of a Peugeot found on its roof in the middle of the A6 Chapel Bypass was three times the drink drive limit, High Peak magistrates heard on Monday.
Gary Graham, 38, who told police he was an “idiot” following the midnight accident on December 11, gave a reading in breath of 106. The legal limit is 35.
Lisa Tinsley, defending, said Graham, was stressed as he believed he had lost his job and had been struggling to see his children following his divorce.
The court heard he had been to his sister’s address in Chapel where he had a drink before falling asleep.
Ms Tinsley said: “Unfortunately he made the decision to get into the car and drive. He was very fortunate there was no one else on the road at the time.”
Graham, of Windsor Terrace, Stockport, admitted drink-driving and was given a 12 month community order with 100 hours’ unpaid work. He was banned from driving for 27 months but can reduce the ban by completing a drink-driver referral course. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs.
