Faulty light leads to driving ban

A motorist who was stopped by police in Whaley Bridge because of a faulty brake light was found to be over the drink-drive limit.

Daniel James Isaac Rich was stopped police on February 11 at 5pm, High Peak Magistrates’ Court heard. Officers noticed he smelt of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet, prosecutor Jennifer Fitzgerald said. He failed a roadside breath test and at the police station provided a urine sample with a reading of 135. The legal limit is 107.

Rich, 43, of Bridgemont, admitted driving with excess alcohol.

John Bunting, defending, said: “He went out about 5pm after having some drinks at lunchtime.

“He has been driving 25 years and has a clean licence.”

He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £110 and ordered to pay a £20 surcharge and £85 costs.
