The pair in their 20s told police one of their mums was going to cook them Sunday lunch but had 'let them down', so they decided to travel to York in search of a takeaway roast.

North Yorkshire Police wrote in a Facebook post: “We know nobody does Yorkshire puddings better than us here in Yorkshire...But they're really not worth getting into trouble for.

The man and woman were both issued with a fixed penalty notice, which is £200 for a first offence.

Police cheekily posted a recipe link to make ‘the best Yorkshire puddings from the comfort of your own home’.

Elsewhere, the parents of six Derbyshire teenagers were fined after their children booked a holiday let in Chapel-en-le-Frith for a party on Friday night.
