Companies fined after worker loses part of leg in accident

A Glossop company has been fined £12,000 after a factory worker was struck by a metal frame and had to have part of his leg amputated.

Vincent Sutton, 49, from Mossley, was delivering the five-metre long rectangular frame to Delpro Ltd on the Brookfield Industrial Estate, on January 5, 2012, when the chains holding it came loose and the frame landed on his foot.

The damage was so severe that his leg eventually had to be amputated to above the knee.

The frame was manufactured by Mr Sutton’s employer Russell Fabrications (UK) Ltd of Ashton, who have also been fined £11,917 after an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive.
