Climber airlifted to hospital with ‘significant head injury’ after 13-foot fall in Peak District

A climber was airlifted to hospital after sustaining a “significant head injury” in a 13-foot fall in the Peak District.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team were called to Curbar Edge at 2.35pm on Monday (21 September) alongside East Midlands Ambulance Service following a leader fall. Buxton Mountain Rescue Team volunteers were also called to assist “due to the severity of the incident”.

The casualty was treated by a doctor, who was first to arrive at the scene, before being taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Edale Mountain Rescue Team said: “The climber was assessed and treated at the base of the crag, immobilised on a Mountain Rescue stretcher and carried up the steep scramble to the crag top where the helicopter had landed.”

The climber was airlifted to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. The full extent of their injuries is not currently known.

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said one ambulance and a doctor attended the scene after a “medical emergency” was reported.
