Police have issued an updated statement saying they are not treating the death as suspicious after a body was discovered in undergrowth in Westfield Drive tonight.

It is believed to be that of missing 13-year-old Amber Peat who went missing following a family row at the weekend.

The site is close to Amber’s school - Queen Elizabeth Academy - in the Ladybrook area of Mansfield.

The youngster stormed out of the family home on Bosworth Street on Saturday evening following an argument and has not been seen since.

The family had just returned from a holiday in Cornwall.

Speaking before the grim discovery, Amber’s headteacher Mike Smith said everyone was very anxious and waiting for news on Amber’s whereabouts.

He said that the whole local community had also been working together to try to find the teenager.

He said: “The safety of all our students is paramount to the academy and all staff and students are naturally concerned that one of the members of our school community is currently missing.

“The academy is working closely with the police to assist in their enquiries to ascertain the whereabouts of Amber.

“The entire local community is really in limbo at the moment wanting to know what more they can do.”

“On all fronts everyone wants to do whatever is possible.

“We just want Amber to return safe and well.”

Earlier today, Amber’s parents also made a desperate appeal for the teenager to come home.

Amber’s mother, Kelly Peat (34) and step-father Danny Peat (31) both fought back tears and looked dazed and tired during a press conference in Mansfield yesterday.

Danny said: “Just come home, just let us know you are safe.

“We all just had a brilliant holiday, and this is just not right.

“We all had a fantastic time and she (Amber) never stopped laughing.

“If she is anywhere, please let us know.”

The family had recently moved to Mansfield from the Tibshelf area of Derbyshire.
