COURT: Derbyshire man admits running his own dad over with car

Dean Wilson (37), of Spital Lane, made his latest appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday afternoon.

He pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder 59-year-old Norman Wilson at Gloucester Road, Chesterfield on Friday 31st October last year.

But he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of grievous bodily harm of Mr Wilson with intent, which was accepted by the barrister for the prosecution, Dawn Pritchard.

Wilson will now be sentenced on that charge on Monday 9th March. But Judge Michael Stokes warned: “It is inevitable that custody will be imposed. He will be disqualified from driving too.”

The judge also described Wilson’s actions as “plainly deliberate”, and expressed surprise that the injuries suffered by his father were “not as serious as might have been anticipated”.

Miss Pritchard said Mr Wilson snr suffered three fractured ribs, bruising, scratches and abrasions. She asked for a victim impact statement from him to be presented to the next hearing.

The court was told by Ben Campbell (defending) that a psychiatric report had been prepared on Wilson, but felt that an additional pre-sentence report by the probation service was not necessary.

At a previous hearing, it was claimed that Wilson, who “had a history of mental problems”, believed his father had been having an affair with the defendant’s ex-partner.

The case was adjourned, and Wilson was remanded in custody until the sentencing hearing.
