Councils object to Dorma site housing proposal

OBJECTIONS are to be submitted from both Chapel-en-le-Frith and Chinley Parish councils to the revised plans for the former Dorma factory site in Chinley.

The new application has a small reduction in the size of a commercial building and an increase to 30 per cent affordable housing within the proposed 182 new homes.

However councillors from both councils believe the developers have failed to address concerns raised previously.

The main issue is the lack of a second access to the site and the reliance on the existence of the single access via narrow lanes to Forge Road increasing the safety issues already associated with Whitehough Head Lane and Green Lane.

Local residents are also objecting as they believe the narrow lanes cannot cope with the traffic that would be generated and have expressed fears about pedestrian safety and the lack of plans to overcome the drainage/flooding issues at the junction.

The plans will be determined by High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control Committee.
