Derbyshire County Council has launched an online survey on the proposal after requests from a number of communities.

A council spokesman said: "The review is only looking at 20mph speed limits on residential roads that are not on major through routes and that don't have speed humps.

"In the survey residents are asked if they support or oppose 20mph speed limits and if they think they make residential areas safer, reduce pollution and noise and make areas better places to live."

Councillor Kevin Gillott, chair of the Improvement and Scrutiny Places Committee, added: "We'd like to hear from as many people as possible."

Before any 20mph speed limits are introduced the council would consult residents.
