Throughout the day on Thursday, February 18, officers from the New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team worked alongside members of the public to carry out a Community Speedwatch along Glossop Road, Little Hayfield.

Over a one hour period, 16 motorists were clocked breaking the 30mph speed limit, with several exceeding this by driving along the road at 37mph.

The motorists will now be advised of the limits, the dangers of speeding, and how they may face points and a fine if they are caught speeding in the future.

PCSO Will Brockett from the New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Speed limits are there for a reason so when these are exceeded the driver is not only breaking the law but are also putting the lives of their passengers and other road users at risk. Speeding kills so allow enough time for your journeys and abide by the speed limits.

“The majority of motorists drove safely and abided by the law on the roads but we will be issuing letters to those drivers speeding through Little Hayfield to keep the area safe.

“Many drivers often don’t slow down after leaving the 50mph zone over Chunal, and others simply speed up too quickly. There are speed measures in place and I would like to urge motorists to take extra care and monitor their speed. We will continue to work alongside our fantastic volunteers to carry out further checks in the area.”
