Consultation over plans to extend Buxton quarry

There's still time for people to have their say about plans to extend a Buxton quarry.

Mineral companies have suggested a number of sites they wish to be included in the Minerals Local Plan for the area − currently being drawn-up by Derbyshire County Council and Derby City Council.

The councils are currently consulting on proposals for extensions at four Derbyshire sites, including Ashwood Dale Quarry in Buxton and Mouselow Quarry in Glossop.

A drop-in session concerning the Ashwood Dale plans was held at Buxton Library on Monday, while people will be able to find out more about the Mouselow Quarry application at Glossop Library next Monday from 2pm to 6.30pm.

Councillor Dean Collins, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said: “We’re consulting with local people to find out their views and we’ve extended the consultation period to make sure everyone has a chance to have their say.”

The plan will be used to guide mineral-related development within Derbyshire and Derby − excluding the Peak District National Park − until 2030.

Anyone wishing to comment on the proposal or the principles used to decide whether or not planning applications for mining and quarrying are approved can email [email protected] or write to The Development Plans Team, Planning Services, Shand House, Dale Road South, Darley Dale, Matlock, DE4 3RY.

The closing date for comments is February 28.
