Community Speed watch

COMMUNITY Speed Watch volunteers and police have been carrying out checks in Litton, Eyam, Bradwell, Curbar and Hathersage.

Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing teams joined volunteers for checks on Church Street, Eyam; Main Road, Litton; Church Street, Bradwell; Bar Road, Curbar and Sheffield Road, Hathersage.

No motorists were caught travelling above the speed limits during the hour long checks in Litton and Eyam, but 15 motorists are set to receive warning letters about their speed after the checks in Bradwell, Hathersage and Curbar.

Thirteen motorists were caught speeding in Hathersage, with two caught in Bradwell.

Sgt Andy Wordsworth who is in charge of the Safer Neighbourhood policing teams in the local area said: “The main idea of Community Speed Watch is to raise awareness of local speed limits and to encourage motorists to think about road safety and how it may affect the community.’’
