A popular Buxton community group may have to close if a new leader cannot be found.
The Fairfield Older People’s Group was set up in 2008 in response to the area’s Post Office closing. The group was supported by the Age UK High Peak Befriending Co-ordinator, who worked with older people in the area to address their needs in relation to loneliness and isolation.
Over the years, the group has worked with other services in Fairfield including youth services, community safety teams and the local junior school.
Members of the group have enjoyed a packed programme of events from guest speakers to outings and parties.
The group meets every week on a Thursday afternoon for two hours, (closed during summer holidays and over Christmas/New Year) and sessions are supported by a paid support worker.
The last support worker has now retired so a replacement is being sought.
