COLUMN: 119th anniversary of Peak District tradition

The community celebration of all things livestock and local produce will take place on Sunday, September 11, at High Fields on Hall Bank in Hartington - its venue since 2014 by the kind permission of Richard Sherratt, a show committee member for a number of years, who takes care of organising the popular vintage tractor section.

The show, which will also include stalls and an indoor market, will coincide with the village’s blessing of the wells on Saturday, September 10, as part of the traditional wells dressing festival.

My favourite thing about the show each year is the way that it really does bring the community together and enables everyone to get involved in some form, whether it’s through the vintage section, animal exhibits or other activities. This really does create a very vibrant atmosphere among members of the village, visitors from the surrounding areas and tourists, resulting in a special and enjoyable environment. Last year I went to the show with a friend and we really enjoyed looking through the craft tents to see what people we knew had handmade, as well as watching all of the animal exhibits.
