Chapel-en-le-Frith councillor Stewart Young is the new Mayor of the High Peak.
He was elected at the annual meeting of High Peak Borough Council on Tuesday night and replaces Cllr Alan Barrow, who held the role for the previous 12 months.
Proposing Cllr Young, Cllr Jim Perkins said: “His interest in local issues began early on when he insisted his mother took him in his pushchair to the Chapel bypass demonstration.”
Newly-elected councillor Colin Boynton will be the deputy mayor.
Thanking retiring mayor Alan Barrow, Cllr Anthony McKeown said: “When he set off as mayor I think he had a few doubts about how well he would take to the role but he has thoroughly enjoyed himself.”
And Cllr Barrow said: “I’ve had an excellent year. I’ve been to a lot of good events and met lots of good people. The mayor is always made most welcome wherever he or she goes and that is a tribute to past mayors as well as all future mayors.”
Cllr Tony Ashton is the new leader of the council, which is now under Conservative control.
