It may be unlucky for some but this Friday the 13th brings a reason to celebrate for a High Peak couple.
Victor and Jennifer Burgess, of Chapel-en-le-Frith are marking a special milestone today (Friday) as they celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
The couple, originally from Stockport, were married at St Mary’s Church in South Reddish on March 13, 1965, after meeting at a dance.
They moved to Chapel when Victor got a job driving for Sam Longson, a position he held for 25 years until he retired.
Jennifer meanwhile, worked in a bakery in Reddish and has also helped out with the family business at Stockport market.
The couple went on to have three children, Steven, Gillian and Gail and now also have ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Victor enjoys fishing, while Jennifer enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
The couple, of Rowton Grange Road, share a passion for caravan holidays and have travelled across Europe, with France being one of their favourite destinations.
They plan to celebrate their milestone day with their family and close friends.
Revealing the secret to their long and happy marriage, Victor, 71, said: “I think it’s give and take.
“Obviously we’re still in love. We were at the beginning and we still are now.”
And Jennifer, 72, added: “We just muck in. He does a lot of things like helping with the cooking and we just go with the flow really.”
