Centre’s record Reverse Santa appeal

Generous locals have helped Buxton’s Springs Shopping Centre celebrate their best Reverse Santa charity appeal collection to date.

The centre invites shoppers to leave unwrapped toys in Santa’s special gift box next to his grotto during the festive period.

These presents are then distributed in the Buxton area by the Buxton Multi-Agency Team at Derbyshire County Council to parents whose children may not normally receive many gifts at Christmas.

This year’s appeal saw 36 sacks filled with toys, the centre’s best collection since Reverse Santa started in 2006.

Springs Centre Manager Carlon Stewart said: “Our Reverse Santa is an opportunity to help children at Christmas and add to their enjoyment of the day.

“The response has been totally overwhelming. Buxton people really are tremendously kind and generous and, on behalf of all centre staff, I should like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated gifts.

“Thirty six sacks of toys is an astonishing achievement by any standard.”

Cilla Warrington of the county council also added her thanks.
