Organisers are expecting a big turnout for this weekend’s bumper Whaley Bridge Carnival procession.
Moving with the times, the committee has said goodbye to the tradition of selecting a rose queen, but say there is still plenty to be excited about.
Chairman Martin Thomas said: “We have 27 bands, floats and groups signed up to be part of the procession, which is set to be our biggest yet.”
Saturday’s parade will leave the canal basin at 1pm and make its way towards Horwich End traffic lights, before doubling back along Chapel Road and then Old Road.
Martin said: “The volunteers have already been out in force putting up the bunting, especially at Horwich End which looks lovely.”
There will be an extended fun fair at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club afterwards, as well as entertainment and food stalls.
Martin added: “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in the procession as they always put in so much effort.”
