Cannabis user caught with drugs in his sock

A cannabis user was caught with 0.6grammes of the class B drug in Chesterfield after he was stopped by police in his car.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Thursday, March 9, how Rakim Clarke, 27, of Wellfield Road, Sheffield, was stopped by police on the A61 at Lockoford Lane, Chesterfield.

Prosecuting solicitor Sam Matkin said: “The incident occurred on February 22. Officers stopped a blue Volkswagen on the A6 and there was strong smell of cannabis.

“Officers asked the defendant if he had cannabis and he volunteered this from his sock. There was 0.6grammes of the drug valued at £6.”

Clarke gave full and frank admissions to the police and said the drug was for personal use.

He pleaded guilty to possessing the class B drug.

The court heard how Clarke has four previous convictions for four offences including two which were drug offences.

Clarke said: “It was stupid really. I have no excuse for what I did.”

Magistrates fined Clarke £80 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £35 victim surcharge.
