Can trio's song bring luck of the Irish to football team dubbed '˜England's worst'?

The club – which was relegated from the eighth-tier Northern Premier League Division One North after a 9-0 hammering to Spennymoor Town earlier this month – hasn’t tasted victory all season.

But Limerick group the Corrigan Brothers are still backing them.

The band has written New Mills Can Still Get a Win to the tune of Katie Melua’s classic Nine Million Bicycles. The song will be released on Friday.

Ger Corrigan, who sings in the band alongside his brothers Brian and Donncha, said: “I read about New Mills being relegated and decided this team needs a song.

“They may not have not won all season but there are some positives – they’ve drawn two.

“We believe they can still win a game this season and if they do we will all buy season tickets for next season,” he added.

The Corrigan Brothers are famous for their There’s No-one as Irish as Barack Obama hit.

The humorous folk song – which celebrates the Irish ancestry of the President of the United States, Barack Obama – was a minor hit in the Irish charts, peaking at number 24 in November 2008.

Sue Hyde, secretary at New Mills Football Club, said: “The lads never go out on to the pitch to lose.

“Hopefully the Corrigan Brothers can bring us a bit of much-needed Irish luck with this song!”

She even mentioned the possibility of the band playing at the Millers’ ground.
