Hayfield’s May Queen celebrations could be under threat unless more volunteers are found to help with the running of the popular annual showcase.
The traditional event, the highlight of which is a procession through the village, has taken place since 1928.
But with members of the organising committee set to stand down, an influx of new blood is required to keep the event going.
May Queen Secretary Geoff Roberts said: “Unless new people volunteer to continue the May Queen tradition, there is a real danger that 2013 will have been the last event.”
Anybody interested in joining the committee is invited to attend the annual general meeting of Hayfield May Queen on Tuesday at 7.30pm, in the George Hotel, Hayfield.
Geoff said: “Ideally the committee needs an infusion of young mums and dads with children of school age to bring new ideas, but all volunteers in whatever capacity are welcome.”
