Buxton triathlon raises hundreds for in-cureable disease Lupus

Claire Springett was diagnosed with the condition two years ago which is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue in many parts of the body and leaves Claire very fatigued.

Earlier in the month she organised a 12-hour triathlon at Buxton Leisure Centre to raise money for Lupus UK.

The 36-year-old said: “I can’t believe how generous people have been. I have had people knocking on my door with money and wanting to help.
“There have also been those coming up to me in the leisure centre talking about their relatives as they are concerned they may have the condition which is brilliant as it means that I have raised awareness.”
Claire, who lives on Alexander Road in Dove Holes gets tired very easily and needs lots of rest but was determined to take part in the swimming, cycling and biking.

She said: “Exercise is very tiring for me but I’m really pleased I managed to do a bit of everything.

“The event couldn’t have come together without the wonderful help of my friends and family and it was amazing to see everyone take part.

“Special thanks go to Shaun Hall, Alistair Beswick, Karen Fletcher, Erin Burns, Gary my husband, Leanne Wild, Debbi Verdon, Andy Lidstone, Joe Pell and my brother Adam.”
Claire said the money will go to funding research to help others in the future.”
