Buxton takes part in Derbyshire Open Arts

Buxton-based artist Pam Smart will be throwing open the doors to her Nusfield road workshop.

She said: “This popular free event, now in its twelfth year, is a great opportunity to meet the artists at work.

“I will be showcasing my beautiful and vibrant paintings of flowers and gardens alongside jewellery designer Yuka Jourdain.”

For over twenty years Pam has taught art and design, fourteen of those as head of art at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School.

She is now using her artistic skills and teaching experience to run art workshops for adults from her light and spacious studio, which has great views across Buxton and the surrounding countryside.

Yuka, originally from Japan has settled in Derbyshire and takes inspiration from the natural beauty of the Peak District and creates intricate felt and silver jewellery.

Caroline McFarlane chairman for the 2018 Open Arts which is running from Saturday, May 26 to Sunday June 3, said: “Whether you are an artist, a visitor or both we hope you will take this extended opportunity to track down some of the more ‘off the beaten track’ venues and artists, who will delighted to welcome you.

“Like last year, selected venues will be open around the county for a further six days.

“This is the plus part of the event and gives everyone a little more time to get around to seeing the artists and venues they want to see.”
