The artwork, which runs the length of platform two, displays many of the town’s iconic buildings.

Artist Carys Walters, a local school pupil who designed the eye-catching panels, said: “The mural covers all four seasons because I wanted to show how beautiful Buxton is, whatever the weather.”

The mural was commissioned by the Friends of Buxton Station (FoBS) and supported by High Peak borough councillors Clive Johnson, Matthew Stone, Linda Grooby, Jean Todd and Rachel Quinn through their Councillor Initiative Fund allocations.

Coun Johnson, who unveiled the artwork on Saturday, said: “This is the first thing people see of Buxton when they arrive by train and it is a very happy and welcoming image.”

David Carlisle, Chairman of FoBS, added: “We loved Carys’ ideas right from the start.

“It was excellent that she came to us with them - it was her idea to make that part of the station much more cheerful.

“We think that she has done it brilliantly.”

FoBS is an unfunded community group of volunteers working to cheer up and generally brighten the station.
