Buxton Mountain Rescue Team had a busy weekend amid freezing temperatures and snow.

Just after 9pm on Saturday, the team received two calls for help virtually simultaneously.

A disabled couple was stranded in the Monks Dale area near Tideswell and two motorists were stuck in the Goyt Valley near to Errwood Hall.

Three and half hours later, the team helped a number of drivers who were struggling on the Cat and Fiddle road.

However, three vehicles had to be abandoned for the night and their nine occupants transported out of the area by team vehicles and taken to Buxton.

Roger Bennett, from the team, said: “It was amazing to see chaos resulting from such a minimal amount of frozen snow.

“Motorists were ill-prepared for the conditions and ignored warning signs.”
