Visitors to a May Day event will have a spring in their step as it makes in debut in Buxton.
Buxton Town Team is hosting the first ever annual Buxton Spring Fair on Monday, May 6.
Between 10am and 5pm the town will come alive with stalls and entertainment, including musicians and dancers.
Organiser Janet Miller said: “This is all about Buxton celebrating Buxton. All sorts of societies and charitable groups will be there – everything from the Model Boat Club to the Chernobyl Children’s Project, and lots of small traders and artists see this as a great opportunity to display and sell what they have to offer.
“Peak Pursuits are bringing a mobile climbing wall, which will be a central feature of the sports and outdoor pursuits cluster at the top of the Slopes. Local shops which might not have opened normally are doing, and others are putting on special promotions, dressing up and joining in the fun.”
The event has been made possible thanks to sponsorship and support from organisations such as the University of Derby Buxton, High Peak Borough Council, Waitrose, Vinci Construction UK, Nash industrial Services Ltd, as well as Buxton Well dressing Festival and the Buxton Advertiser to name but a few.
Co-organiser Suzanne Pearson “The council have been really helpful, as have the emergency services.
“We have a team of students from the university helping with organising the event, and have offers of assistance from the Rotary Club and the Round Table.
“Local businesses are helping out by providing road barriers, signs and other bits of kit that we need, local musicians are loaning us PA equipment – there’s a real sense of the community coming together to make this a fantastic event.”
Some of the groups and individuals taking part in the fair include Buxton Fairtrade Group,Transition Buxton and Chris Mill Community Sports.
Traders taking part in the day include Accorn Supply, Coffee Delight, and Pieces of England.
There will be artists and photographers there on the day, as well as entertainers including Buxton Drama League, Local Vocals and Shuttlers’ Clog.
