Buxton delights foreign delegates

High Peak MP Andrew Bingham welcomed a group of international travel buyers from Spain, Italy and Mexico to Buxton, after he secured a visit to coincide with an international tourism trade fair.VisitBritain hosted the international tourism event ExploreGB 2016 in Liverpool last Thursday and Friday, and MrBingham persuaded them that they needed to take the foreign delegates out of the meeting rooms and out into tourist areas such as the Peak District to show them the great range of attractions that the region has to offer and to give them the opportunity to meet with local tourism businesses. He said: 'I was delighted that, after pestering VisitBritain about the need to take some of the delegates out into the country, they agreed to do so, and also agreed to bring them to the Peak District. 'I'm constantly banging the drum for tourism in the area, so to get influential travel buyers to the area, who will hopefully go home and recommend the area, is great news for the local tourism industry.'I'm very pleased that my persistence paid off, and I'd like to thank Discover Buxton for pulling out all the stops and I think the delegates left with a good impression of the town.' The group of 25 international travel buyers were welcomed at the Opera House by the MP, as well as High Peak Borough Council leader Tony Ashton and mayor Stewart Young. The group was then taken on a walking tour of Buxton and then ate at the Arts Café.
