Buxton & District Lions has thanked carnival revellers for their support in helping raise over £2,000 through this year’s duck race.

The event saw 2,300 yellow plastic ducks released into the slow-moving waters of the River Wye in the Pavilion Gardens on Carnival Day, with crowds lining the banks to cheer on their sponsored duck. Prizes of £100, £50 and £25 were up for grabs.

Lions spokesman David Brindley said: “Many parents buy tickets on behalf of their children, so it was fitting that this year’s winner was local schoolgirl Charlotte Dunkin.

“Buxton & District Lions would like to thank all the good people of Buxton, and elsewhere, who helped raise over £2,000, which can now assist local individuals and groups in need of financial support.” Pictured with Charlotte is Dan Blunt from Buxton & District Lions.
