A Glossopdale butchers opens its third shop tomorrow (Friday) in a former cannabis farm in Stalybridge.

The new J W Mettrick and Son store, on Melbourne Street, will be opened by MP Jonathan Reynolds and Lord Pendry at 3pm.

John Mettrick, owner, said his shop-fitter told him about the premises’ former use, adding: “We’ve always been well known for getting our produce directly from the farm, but to find out there had been a cannabis farm in the flat above our new shop was taking things to extremes.”

The move comes after the butchers, which already has branches in Glossop and Hadfield, set up a stall in Stalybridge’s farmers’ market 18 months ago.
