A CHINLEY woman has “bin” named as joint winner in a worldwide competition.
Kate Yorke beat off tough competition from over 1,000 entrants from across the globe in the competition, which was run by the houseware company Brabantia. Those entering were asked to create a new design for Brabantia’s 2013 Retro Bin range with Kate’s Kitchen Collage design capturing the judge’s attention and scooping her the joint winner’s prize.
David Slater, Sales Director at Brabantia, said: “The standard of entries this year was very high – we had designs from budding artists, photographers and designers from all over the world.
“Kate Yorke’s Kitchen Collage design is a colourful and eye-catching patchwork of patterns inspired by kitchen gadgets and utensils. We are really looking forward to seeing Kitchen Collage go into production next year.”
Kate added: “Seeing my design go into production is really exciting. My design was inspired by items you might find in most kitchens; kettles, cups and pans.
“I wanted it to look like shelves, so you see a different part of the design from every angle. I have my prototype at home and keep having to check it’s real.
“I am so pleased with the way the design looks on the actual bin and am really looking forward to seeing it on sale.”
As well as having her bin produced, Kate also received a bin featuring her design and 1,500 Euros worth of Brabantia products.
