Buxton’s artisan market will now take place on the first Saturday of every month at the Market Place, starting this weekend, thanks to a successful pilot.
Following two trials, one in Spring Gardens and one in the Market Place, customers, stallholders and shopkeepers agreed that the markets, selling homemade food, drinks, arts and crafts, should become a monthly event.
Research carried out for Buxton Town Team by the University of Derby collated 90 responses from stallholders, 193 from Buxton retailers and 292 from members of the public.
Results showed that all three stakeholders strongly support the introduction of an artisan market in the town.
Shops in Higher Buxton found that it was much better for their businesses when the market was held in the Market Place.
John Estruch, town team director, said: “We’re delighted that the artisan market was so popular with shoppers, shopkeepers and market traders.
“We will continue monitor its success and we hope that it will get bigger and better.”
