BRUTAL ATTACK: Young Derbyshire man suffers broken jaw in vicious street assault

Shortly before 2.15am on Sunday, police were called to Hilton Street in the Northern Quarter area of Manchester city centre where they found 25-year-old Ryan King with serious facial and hand injuries.

He was taken to hospital where he needed surgery for a broken jaw. Ryan, of Hadfield, remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Ryan's mum Alaina Robinson, 47, says she and his family are desperate to help police find those responsible.

She told the Manchester Evening News: "He's in a lot of pain and can't talk properly.

"You think your kid is just going out for a good night and this happens.

"He's a good lad. If he sees a fight he would always stop it and he doesn’t like bullies.

"He had a lovely smile and they've kicked his teeth in and the doctors say he will probably lose more teeth."

Police say Ryan was in the process of leaving The Pen and Pencil bar when he was set upon by a group of four or five men who began punching and kicking him.

It is not currently known if there had been a prior altercation between Ryan and the men and police are now appealing for witnesses to the assault to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Phil Marsh, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This young man has been subject to a brutal assault by a group of men which has left him with some very serious injuries.

"It is not quite clear if there had been some sort of previous altercation between the group and the man and we are keen to speak to anyone who may know something.

"The Northern Quarter can be one of the busiest areas of the city centre on a weekend so we believe that there will have been quite a lot of people around who may have witnessed the attack.

"If anybody has any information that they believe can assist with our enquiries then please contact police."
