BREAKING NEWS: Huge fire rips through Buxton's Fairfield Centre

Massive plumes of smoke and flames have been pouring from the building on Victoria Park Road.

Fire crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue are dealing with the incident which is understood to have started at about 3.30pm.

It is not known if anyone was inside the building at the time when the fire broke out or how the blaze started at this stage.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area as firefighters tackle the blaze which has ripped through the centre, used for a variety of children's services and community activities and which is run by Derbyshire County Council.

The community centre is used by a number of groups and organisations, although it is not clear whether the centre has been in use on a regular basis during the coronavirus pandemic.
