Councillors have again approved a controversial outline application for up to 107 homes on land in Whaley Bridge, subject to further consultation and any intervention from the Secretary of State.

The application, for a site on Linglongs Road, was initially approved in August but was redetermined by members of High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control Committee at a special meeting this afternoon (Wednesday) after a legal challenge prompted by the campaign group Whaley Bridge Matters.

However, a decision notice will not yet be issued because a further consultation period is due to start tomorrow (Thursday), and if any issues arise, these will need to go back before the committee.

In addition, the application was referred to the Secretary of State Eric Pickles this week and could yet face further scrutiny.
