Community groups have joined forced to make sure this year’s Christmas lights switch on in New Mills is bigger and better than ever.

Taking place on Saturday, starting at 6pm, the event will see more of the town centre filled with entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

Gwyn Bowers, chair of New Mills Town Council, said: “It’s fantastic for the whole of New Mills to have the town council working as one with community groups like Visit New Mills and all the many volunteers who make events like this such a success for everyone.”

As well as the traditional lights switch-on and carol singing with New Mills brass band at the town hall from 6pm, the day will see Market Street, High Street and Torr Top Street transformed into a winter wonderland with Santa and his helpers in a grotto, indoor and outdoor artisan Christmas market stalls and live festive street music.

There will also be cosmopolitan food vendors, late night shopping, street entertainment, fairground rides and more.

One of the stars of the show will be the 19th century Slacks 87 key Gaviola organ entertaining crowds along High Street.
