Beer festival in Buxton this weekend

A beer festival is taking place in the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, this weekend.

The event is part of the Big Session music festival and is being held from Friday to Sunday.

Liverpool Organic brewery will take over the Pavilion Gardens marquee over the weekend to offer more than 150 real ales and ciders from microbreweries across the UK.

Along with a showcase of Liverpool Organic Brewery beers on hand-pump, there will also be a gin bar hosted by the award-winning Liverpool Gin, as well as a selection of wines and continental bottled beers.

Hosted by Oysterband, the Big Session Festival pre-sales have attracted audiences from 218 different UK postcodes together with international sales in Dubai, Denmark and Germany.

The cream of English folk music coming to perform, include June Tabor and Sam Carter, Seth Lakeman, Lucy Ward, Edward II and the Emily Portman Trio. There will be folk music at the beer hall throughout the weekend led by Terry Clarke –Coyne and Simon Care.

The beer hall will also provide the venue for the Big Session Ceilidh led by Oysterband. For those coming to the festival from Manchester, there is a dedicated ‘Folk Train’ at 11.49 from Manchester Piccadilly, arriving in time for the beer festival’s Saturday afternoon session and evening concerts by Will Pound and Eddy Jay at the Arts Centre and Oysterband plus June Tabor at the Opera House.

Tickets to the beer festival hall, based at the Pavilion Garden’s Marquee cost £5 for afternoon sessions (12pm - 4.30pm) and £8 for evening sessions (6pm – 12.30am) and include a souvenir glass, full colour programme and all entertainment during the session. Beer tokens will be available to purchase upon arrival.
