Thousands of fun-seekers are descending upon the picturesque town to savour the sights, sounds and smells of the 183rd Bakewell Show (see video).

Revellers are flooding into the showground to enjoy an exciting mix of family-themed attractions and agricultural delights.

Bakewell Show manger Janet Bailey said: “The sun’s shining and people are so eager to get in to enjoy the fun – I couldn’t be happier.

“Everyone loves Bakewell Show – I think it’s because we keep it traditional but also add lots of fresh delights.”

Jennifer Wilson, 60, of Shirebrook, has attended the event every year for the past five decades.

She said: “You’re always guaranteed a splendid time at Bakewell Show – I adore it.”

This year’s main attraction promises to be a breathtaking horseback display presented by the Stampede Stunt Company.

And the much-loved traditional extravaganza – which culminates tomorrow night – guarantees to wow crowds with the usual animal contests, cookery demonstrations, horticultural exhibits, craft displays and vintage and classic cars.

For the first time, organisers hosted a special equestrian day on Tuesday before the main spectacle.

Mrs Bailey said it was a “fantastic” hit.
