Probus club members learned about the complexities of constructing a tunnel to carry road traffic.

David Shaw, guest speaker at Bakewell Probus Club, talked with great knowledge about building an immersed tube tunnel to carry the A55 North Wales Coast Road beneath the estuary of the River Conwy, a project with which he was closely involved.

Completed in the early 1990s, this was the first such tunnel to be be built in the United Kingdom.
