Her 88-year-old mother, Iris Casey, of Main Street, Great Longstone, said: “I never thought I’d find myself in this position – I just want to sit and cry.

“She was a wonderful, lovely daughter – it was a joy to be with her.”

Much-loved Christine, who lived in the area all her life, was a hairdresser before spending about 20 years working at the Casey family-run newsagents in Great Longstone.

Her brother, Nick, said Christine was a “lovely person” who had many pastimes including walking, swimming and horse riding.

Christine’s partner, Graham, who is in hospital after a hip operation, is said to be devastated.

The family thanked everyone for their flowers and messages of sympathy following the tragedy.

Tributes included a card from youngsters at Longstone Primary School who often stopped by to see Christine in the shop at hometime.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, which happened at about 5.30pm last Tuesday, should call police on 101.
