Buxton pub the 19th Hole is the toast of the town - after being named Best Bar in a Buxton Advertiser competition.
And the accolade marks an incredible turnaround for the Fairfield pub, which was on the verge of closing down just a few years ago.
Landlord Scott Wanless, who took over the running of the pub in 2011 with his wife Helen, was over the moon when he heard the pub had scooped the title.
“It was quite a shock,” he said. “We’re a little pub on the edge of the town and we were up against some really big and popular pubs in the final shortlist, so for us to have won just goes to show what the people of Buxton think of us.
“It is a real reward for all the hard work that has been put in by everyone and it’s just fantastic to have won.”
He added: “When we took over, the pub was on the verge of shutting down but in those four years, we’ve managed to turn it around to become a true local pub.
“It’s not just down to myself and Helen though, it is a real team effort and all the staff both past and present have played their part. Thank you to all of them, and thank you to everyone who voted.”
Advertiser Editor Jonathan Dodds added: “I’d like to congratulate the team at the 19th Hole.
“With the awards being voted for by our readers, it’s a real boost for all of the premises who were nominated as it shows their customers value everything they do.”
